Weve got a few friends coming over and im thinking Spanish – any suggestions?
Many of the best chefs in the world nowadays are Spanish and they have updated our traditional food into modern and sophisticated recipes. But going back to the basics, i would prepare a Spanish omelette. Its not difficult to cook and I dont know anyone who wouldnt like its flavour.

Was in Barcelona the other week – its got to be the hardest place in the world to stop smoking?
Many of the best chefs in the world nowadays are Spanish and they have updated our traditional food into modern and sophisticated recipes. I have other sorts of vices.

What do you make of London – have you ever been?
Ive never been to London. Ive visited other areas in England like Liverpool or Manchester but Id like to come back and visit London and even live there for a short time. The weather could be a problem for me to stay longer.. the sun gives me energy and the clouds bring me down.

Theres a serenity and sense of humanity that shines from your work – i imagine you have a kind of quiet authority about you?
I am far from content with this world as there is a lot to complain about but neither do i want to condecend with my images. I am a very calm person. I dont like surprises or over-excitement and its true that my illustrations show some of that calm.

Are composition and drama the key elements to your work?
I like that in my images there is something very subtle about the situation. Some kind of drama or something incomprihensible or impossible about the situation. When I express that something it should cause the viewer a certain restlessness.

Weve had your tunes on in the studio – what are you into at the moment?
My work is affected by obsessions and seasons. I can go from trip-hop to electronic folk and it doesnt mess my hair up. I think the opportunities the internet has given us are fantastic.. to know so many great groups that otherwise we wouldnt hear. We are very lucky.
