Anton Weflö
My name is Anton Weflö and I’m a graphic designer & Illustrator roaming around the northern parts of Sweden. I’m often occupied making stuff, I like adventures and in particular I like drawing things. I enjoy happiness and spontaneity, which I believe reflects in my work. I’m also about to build a spaceship.
.
Are you self taught or are you studying?
I am self taught. I haven’t always been drawing but I’ve always had kind of an abstract and creative mind. I love challenges and discovering new things, and I really got started drawing a couple of years ago. It was strange because it was a world that I hadn’t payed much attention to, but really sucked me in. I have this thing where I try a lot of new things but never really stick to them, I can get intrigued by something but as I have experienced it for a while the feeling wears off. This never happened with drawing, I can’t really go a day without making something.
This drawing thing I had going on led to a highschool project that I started where I wanted to create T-shirts. This led to an internship at a local screen printer, who funny enough was about to launch their own brand. They were really cool and I learned a lot during this time. One of these dudes gave me a CD with CorelDraw one day, and down that road it goes.
Whats the creative scene like in Sweden?
Well, I think we have a great scene with a lot of talented people. I’ve always loved the scandinavian styles and Sweden has many great illustrators. I think we have a high standard when it comes to illustration, and a very clean graphic language which I love.
Lovin your style – you seem to be influenced a bit by space and far
off lands?
Thanks alot ! Yes, I guess you could say that. I would say that I base my illustrations on a feeling than an idea, or at least the feeling being dominant. I often listen to music when I’m drawing. I guess this puts me in a mind state where I easily relate and draw inspiration from such environments where I imagine that the music would exist. I often just go with what feels natural, and it’s really my thoughts that are being illustrated. I guess my illustrations could tell you a lot or just nothing at all, as with anything else.
Creative plans for the future?
I’m currently working on a zine and some skateboard decks. I’m also about to build this sundriven vessel, which I was really intrigued by when I went to see Tomas Saracenos exhibition in Stockholm. He handed out blueprints and I grabbed one.
Will you be having a crayfish party this summer?
Hopefully I’ll be attending one! Though I’m a vegetarian so I wouldn’t really be feasting on crayfish, but I’d get to wear the festive hats and drink the booze!
